Other activities Without the school we did also other activities that we organised like going to the ploughing, I have an entry about it, or dancing classes, which is explained on the dance entry. But there were some others. I went to Cliffs of Moher, they are really famous in Ireland and lots of famous films and series had film there like Harry Potter and the half-blood prince, The Princess Bride, Irish Wish, the Mackintosh Man and others. They are an astonishing place, with huge green field and the sound of the waves crashing into the cliffs. I also went roller skating and it was really funny, there was English but also Spanish music being played, until I felt and I thought I had broken my arm. After that we went to a small nearby hospital and I had an X-ray, nothing was broken but it could be fractured so we had an appointment for 10 days after were they confirmed that I had nothing broken, but because my wrist was making me feel in pain I had to continue wearing the wrist ban...

Welcome to the emigrants

Imagen
Welcome to the emigrants First of all, to understand everything, I'm going to do a small historical context. On the 19th century a big group of irish people emigrate to Canada because of the poverty and hunger that they were suffering on Ireland because of the british. Ok, let's move on to nowadays, some of their descendents were contacted and reunited on Ireland to do a memorial and visit where their ancestors used to live . They were welcomed with Canada's flag all around the villages and the 21st September they were invited to walk around nature, hear some popular Irish music and share post cards that they had found from the part of their family that had stayed on Ireland. It was a beautiful moment were people with so much in common, that they didn't even know, where they only met each other and enjoy their culture, connecting with their origin.

Dances

Dances Dances are also a very important part of Irish culture and my host mother was a dancin teacher so she thought me some dances and we did some clases with other students. I was also able to visit a palace from an English Duke where she was hire to dance and teach how to dance to the residents, it was a really fun night. There are lots of different dances, but the main thing to know is that they use special shoes so their steps are louder and they tap really fast and a lot of times. Usually the dances are in pairs and there are a few where they use a brush like the one that you have at your house.

Music

Music Music is a huge part of the Irish culture along with dancing. Irish music is really lively and it makes you want to dance, with cheerful melodies and rhythms. It's usually played with banjos, bagpipes, riddles, tin whistles, concertinas, bouzoukis, harps, mandolins, guitars and some other instruments. It's played on pubs, concerts and music festivals. My family loved music so I had the luck of listening a lot of music and I was able to play the banjo. I'm really thanked to my host family because I was able to saw the music culture from first hand thanks to them.

Sports in Irelad

Sports There are two main sports that are played in Ireland, one is hurling, it's the most popular sport and it's called camogie if girls play it, the other one is Gaelic football. Also I don't know if everybody but the people I was with loved playing darts. Hurling is a sport played with a stick called hurley, with a wide flat part. The game consist on getting goals, there are two different types of goals depending where it happend, because the goal is like a football one, but with two large vertical sticks, so if you do a goal on the top part you have one point and if you do it on the lower part it's three points. The ball that they use is hard like a baseball ball and it's called sliotar. The basic rules are that you can't walk more than four steps with the ball on the hand, so you can pass it with the hand, hit it with the hurley to pass it or run with it on your hurley. Also you can't pick the ball from the floor with your hands, you have to do it wit...

My trip to Cork  The Friday 26th we didn't have class, so we went to Cork with all the spanish Erasmus students to visit the city. We went by train for about 45 minutes. First of all we had a walk and visited Marina Market where we had lunch, and I bought a hurling jersey. After lunch we had a wal all along the river to the center of the city where we visited Ingles Market. Those two markets are the most populars markets on Cork and are a very important part of the social live. We also visit a few chunches and the Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral and The National Monument. We also went to a few shops to look and buy clothes and little gifts to take with us to Spain.
